Adult Basketball FAQs

Registration Questions

When is this league offered?

We have a winter season that is January - February and a summer season that is June - July.

Why is the league not offered year round?

The department only has one basketball gym in the city. This means this gym is used for programs, youth leagues, adult leagues, and events. This limits the amount of seasons we are able to offer at this time.

What type of registration do you accept?

We accept team and individual registration.

Who can register for the league?

This is an open league for people 18+. Both men and women can play without any restrictions.

What is the minimum amount of teams for the league to make?

We require a minimum of 5 teams to register in order for the league to make.

What if the league does not make?

If the league does not make due to not enough registrations, you will be refunded your money.

Can a player play without being registered?

No, all players must be registered in the Amilia system for their team in order to participate. If a player is caught playing without being registered, the game will be stopped and the player will not be able to play until registered.

How do I register for my team?

The individual that registered the team (manager) will receive a secret link for his/her team. This link can be found on the receipt from registration. The Athletics staff will also send this link to the manager after registration.

Can the manager register all of his/her team members?

No, we require each individual player to create their own Amilia account and register for their team. This is so each individual can read and sign the waiver and guidelines for the league.

How many players can be on a team?

Each team can have a max of 12 players. You may drop/add through the last regular season games. Once playoffs begin, rosters are locked and no additions can be made.

How can you drop a player from your team?

The team manager must reach out to the Athletics League Staff to drop a player from their team. Once approved, the player will be noted as dropped from your roster.

What is included in the registration fee?

The cost of referees, end of season awards, staff, and other various fees to run the league.

League Questions

Does the league provide jerseys?

The league does no provide jerseys for the teams. You must supply your own jerseys. Jerseys must have legal basketball numbers on them.

What is the prize if you win?

The team that wins the season will receive a t-shirt and bragging rights.

How long are games?

Games will consist of two 20 minute halves with a running clock for the first 18 minutes of each half.

Is there a shot clock?

There is not a shot clock for this league.

Does the league provide practice times?

We do not provide practice times for teams. You may utilize the open gym time, but must have a membership and must share the court with other members. The gym during the week is mainly occupied by recreational classes, youth leagues, and open gym. There is not enough space for every team to get an official practice time. One solution if you would like to use our gym for practice is to reserve the gym. The gym is only available to rent after hours on Saturdays or Sundays. Just submit a request here at this link: Recreation Center Reservation Form

Is this a recreational league or competitive league?

The league is truly a recreational league. We do ask teams upon registration if they would prefer to play competitive or recreational. If we have enough teams to make two separate divisions we will break it into a competitive division and recreational division. This is not guaranteed to happen every season. It truly depends on how many teams we have and what they request.

Are individual player stats recorded and posted online?

No, only game scores and team records are available online during the season. We do not keep individual stats.

What rules does the league follow?

We use a variation of college and high school rules. You can find the full rules at by clicking here. Rules & League Info

Why is dunking not allowed?

Dunking is not allowed for a few reasons. The main reason is player safety. Dunking can easily result in injuries due to the motion and landing. Another reason is this is the only gym that we have in the city. If a player breaks the glass or rim itself, it will take some time to get it repaired or replaced. This may result in the season being canceled.

Will there be double headers?

There is a possibility for double headers during regular season and playoffs. Playoffs require double headers due to league logistics. In order for the league to have referees, the contract group we work with requires a minimum of 3 games a day. Due to this during the playoffs, it is ultimately impossible to schedule just 1 or 2 championship games for a day.

Do spectators have to pay to watch games?

No, entry is free for anyone wanting to watch games. Though spectators must be respectful and have sportsmanship themselves. All spectators are subject to the same sportsmanship rules as the players.

What happens if a player is injured during a game?

If a player is injured, we have a first aid kit on site. Staff will assess the situation and if needed call an ambulance. It is ultimately up to the player if they want to receive treatment.
